Reality vs Instagram
What the viral reels show — and what actually happens when you get there.
Empty trail, just you and the prayer flags at Thorong La summit.
There are 80 people taking the same selfie at -10°C with 40 km/h wind. Beautiful, but queue for your photo.
Cosy fireplace teahouse with hot apple pie and WiFi.
The fireplace runs out of yak dung by 8pm, WiFi above Pisang is NPR 200 for 30 minutes of dial-up speed, and the apple pie is a Snickers in dough.
Smooth jeep skip from Besisahar to Chame in 5 hours.
8 hours on a road that's basically a riverbed, 14 people in a 9-seater jeep, dust in your teeth for a week.
